The criminal offence „Organizing of animal matches“ in the Slovak law order and its circumstances in the Czechoslovak context

Abstract

There was the novel Act no. 288/2020 Z. z. in the Slovak republic last year which brought the new body of the offence „Organizing of animal matches“. The Slovak legislator responded to the negative social phenomenon of dog fights which the slovak journalists uncovered in the last years. This new body of the offence was incorporated into § 305c Act no. 300/2005 Z. z. Criminal Code. It is about a partial step to strengthening of the legal animal protection before the specific expressions of their maltreatment. There is a modern perception of the animal protection in the view of its dereification which leads to the constant considerations de lege ferenda. This contribution aims to the familiarization with the new legislation of the crime „Organizing of animal matches“ de lege lata. The contribution is devided into three parts. The first part is dedicated to knowledge with the phenomenon of dog fights and its requirement to criminalization. The second section deals with the specific diction of the new body of this offence. The third part is mentioned to point out on insufficiency of the administrative responsibility in animal protection.
