Abstract

The formation of Czechoslovakia was characterised by legal dualism, the consequences of which raised
the inevitable need for unifying the individual sections of law, including matrimonial law. Differences
in this area persisted until 1949, when Act No. 265/1949 Coll. on Family Law was adopted. The paper
presents a brief but comprehensive overview of the development of matrimonial law in the
Czechoslovak legal system from the establishment of the common state until the formation of the
independent republics.
